Your Seacoast Safari

From their highly popular, wildlife packed Puffin Island Cruises or their leisurely sightseeing Menai Strait bridges cruise, they cater for the whole family, so join them in ‘Exploring Wild Wales’.

Puffin Island Cruises

With spectacular scenery and an array of wildlife it’s easy to see why we take thousands of passengers each year to view this beautiful island. The Puffin Island cruises are a leisurely and relaxed trip aboard one of their 35 or 54 seater cruise boats. With an entertaining and informative commentary along the way they’ll be pointing out places of interest and telling you about the local history, spotting the different birds and wildlife and telling you about them too.

Puffin Island also known as Ynys Seiriol in Welsh, is located at the North East entrance of the Menai Straits and is the ninth largest island off the Welsh coast. The island was once home to the sixth century saint, St Seiriol, whose monastery is still visible on the top of the island today. Puffin Island is now a bird sanctuary and a nesting site for many species of breeding seabirds. The main season is between April and July when you are likely to see common guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and of course puffins but as with all seabirds outside of the breeding season they are only found out at sea (you will not see puffins on these cruises outside of the breeding season).

You may also find fulmar and eider duck breeding on the island and often spot the odd black guillemot in the area too. Other species such as cormorant and shags are on the island all year round as are their resident Atlantic grey seals. You may even be lucky enough to encounter porpoise, sometimes even dolphin.

Menai Strait Cruises

Architecture, Scenery, History & Wildlife. The Seacoast Safari Menai Straits Cruises are a popular choice, as the only boat operator on Anglesey with passenger vessels licensed to go under both the bridges you’ll get a unique perspective of these architectural masterpieces.

This cruise will head in a South West direction, from Beaumaris along the Menai Strait towards Menai Bridge with breath-taking scenery and awesome architecture. Passing Victorian piers, and the lavish homes along ‘Millionaires Row’ you’ll head towards the iconic bridges of Thomas Telford and Robert Stephenson and further again to Plas Newydd stately home. You will pass under both the bridges and through the infamous ‘Swillies’ where the shipwreck of HMS Conwy now rests under the surface, passing the beautiful islands of Tysilio and Ynys Gored Goch on the way. Look out for grey heron standing like statues along the banks while other wading birds such as oystercatchers and curlew explore the lower shores. Seacoast Safaris are the only operator in Anglesey to offer cruise boat trips under the bridges.
