The railway is delighted to be offering a variety of festive fun this November and December as they look forward to Santa trains, Christmas trains, Christmas Markets and Fairs!
During this festive period, Santa will be visiting us, providing visitors the opportunity to meet him in his Christmas Carriage Grotto at Porthmadog Harbour Station or to join him aboard their Welsh Highland Santa trains!
They will also be running a selection of steam trains between Christmas and New Year on their railway, so there’s plenty of choice for a day out following the festivities of Christmas Day!
Welsh Highland Railway Santa Trains
Santa will be visiting the Welsh Highland Railway over the festive period as they run their Santa Specials between Caernarfon Station – Rhyd Ddu.
Your festive journey will begin at Caernarfon Station, where you will collect your Christmas Hamper, full of tasty treats for your trip on the train!
Once aboard, sit back and enjoy a trip through the beautiful Snowdonia National Park in the company of Santa and his Elves who will be sure to have gifts aplenty for all the well-behaved children!

Travelling the southern end of the Welsh Highland Railway, their ‘Christmas Glaslyn’ services begin at Porthmadog Harbour Station, where Spooner’s café will be open, allowing passengers to purchase seasonal refreshments prior to their departure.

Santa’s Christmas Carriage Grotto
During this festive period, Santa will be visiting both of their railways, providing visitors with the opportunity to meet him in his Christmas Carriage Grotto at Porthmadog Harbour Station!
Santa’s Christmas Carriage Grotto will be like no other… their team of elves have been very busy, making sure everything is in tip-top condition for Santa and their visitors!
Due to Santa’s very busy schedule this time of year and to keep their visitors safe and make sure everyone gets a chance to collect their gift, they are asking visitors to book an hour slot where they can visit any time within that pre-booked slot.
