About This Event
The season concludes with the return of their Principal Conductor, Ryan Bancroft, alongside the masterful Steven Isserlis who will perform one of Walton’s most romantic compositions, his Cello Concerto.
They then turn to Shostakovich’s terrifying, desperate and dark tenth symphony, which is ultimately triumphant in the face of impossible horrors. Considered by most to be a depiction of Stalin’s rule of Russia, it is testament to the composer’s legacy chronicling one of the most turbulent reigns in recent history, inspiring in its ability to find optimism in the bleakest of situations. An exhilarating end to the 21-22 season.
