The most Southern county in Wales, known by locals as ‘The Vale’ this 130 square miles piece of Wales is well known for its Amusement Park found in the county’s biggest town, Barry. The aptly named Barry Island Pleasure Park is only 10 miles from Cardiff featuring 17 amusement rides from The Waltzer to Cup and Saucers. Stop off for a visit, admission is free. Being the most Southern county in Wales it’s no surprise that the vale has some of the most beautiful and stunning beaches and bays, go fossil hunting down at Dunraven Bay, sheltered by the looming cliffs this sandy beach is perfect for a family day out, find some creepy crawlies in and around the huge rock pools in the bay. See the bays of Glamorgan from a different perspective by paying a visit to the Nash Point Lighthouse, it is Wales’ last manned lighthouse, famous for a tragedy in the 1830s when 78 lives were lost in a shipwreck off the coast, also known for being the only British lighthouse managed by a female lighthouse attendant. Shift things up a gear and get ready for some adrenaline-pumping karting at The South Wales Karting Centre, one of the largest and fastest circuits in Wales.
