Carmarthenshire… the castle county. This Southwest county is home to a famous magician from Arthurian legend, you might have heard of him. Merlin. It’s an aptly awarded accolade for the county, as it is home to a whopping 12 medieval castles. The oldest one of these being Carmarthen Castle, first built in the 1100s after being destroyed and rebuilt multiple times in its lifetime as well as being marked as a heritage site it is also home to the town of Carmarthen’s tourism centre, so a must-visit spot at the start of your visit to Carmarthenshire. Although we could talk about Castles all day, moving on to the 21st century the county is home to Wales’ National Botanical Gardens. A visitor attraction and research centre, if you’re visiting you can’t miss the world’s largest single-span greenhouse at 110m long by 60m wide. The British Bird of Prey Centre can also be found in the gardens, hosting 3 different flying displays daily so it’s always a good time to visit.
