Frogmore House, located in Windsor Home Park approximately half a mile to the south of Windsor Castle, was always a Royal Residence since 1792. Since Queen Charlotte bought Frogmore House in 1790, the gardens have been a popular destination for monarchs with their families. The home was utilised by Queen Charlotte and their unmarried daughters as a rural retreat. They used Frogmore as a “refuge” from court life, where they could indulge in their hobbies of “painting, sketching, needlework, japanning, reading, and ‘botanising’.” A number of rooms in Frogmore show the Queen’s interest in botany, including one adorned with painted florals by the painter Mary Moser.
