Parc Penallta, carved from a former coal dump, is widely known as the “place with the horse.” “Sultan the Pit Pony,” one of the country’s biggest figurative earth sculptures, draws people from all around who come to view and adore him. But, as amazing as Sultan is, Parc Penallta is much more than simply him. Climbing to the High Point Observatory will reward you with magnificent views of the South Wales valleys. As you tour this varied site, it’s difficult to believe that just 30 years ago, this lovely and peaceful area was a black coal dump.
Parc Penallta is a location for you to discover. There are hidden treasures to be discovered throughout the site, from the wide-open regions on the plateau to the more intimate nooks in the lower portion of the property. You’ll be rewarded for your efforts whether you walk through our willow tunnel, witness a dragonfly do aerial acrobatics above a pond, or locate the Sleeping Giant.
