The Newport Museum and Heritage department are in charge of the city’s Museum and Art Gallery, as well as the Medieval Ship project and the Transporter Bridge.
The first museum in Newport opened to the public in 1888.
During the building of the Riverfront Theatre in June 2002, the Newport Medieval Ship was found on the banks of the River Usk.
A team of archaeologists unearthed the ship and raised it from the ground piece of timber by timber.
The unique Newport Transporter Bridge is one of just six functioning transporter bridges remaining in the world, out of a total of twenty built.
Since its completion in 1906, the bridge has dominated the Newport skyline.
