Blackwood Miners’ Institute is one of the most exciting performing arts venues in South Wales.
They create and present the highest quality professional and community arts for a diverse range of audiences and participants.
They want everyone to have easy access to great arts and culture and we work hard to create a balanced programme designed to inspire, educate and entertain.
Each year they host hundreds of events and participatory activities spanning drama, dance, family performances, live music, opera, literature and comedy, ensuring everybody can experience something to suit their tastes.
Blackwood Miners’ Institute is the only professional venue in the county borough. The local authority in which the Institute is located is committed to supporting the arts as essential, highly valued and cherished. Caerphilly Council recognises the contribution the arts make to the social, cultural and economic regeneration of the region and to the health and wellbeing of residents.
BMI is available as a resource for the local community and amateur organisations to rehearse or to stage productions.
They also act as support for professional artists and emerging companies, to support new theatre-making.
In 2017 Blackwood Miners’ Institute and RCT Theatres co-produced a new version of JASON & THE ARGONAUTS for ages 8 plus. The production was adapted by Mark Williams, directed by Julia Thomas and was hosted by several venues across Wales.
Blackwood Miners’ Institute has a long-standing relationship with Black RAT Productions. Since 2010, we have co-produced an annual national tour and together we are committed to the common aim of providing high-quality productions to not just our own audiences, but to meet the demand of audiences across Wales.
