In 1907, the Museum was founded, and in 1916, it was opened to the public. Their first home was at the City Library, which was then housed in the Carnegie Building in Pery Square, and their curator was the librarian of the time.
Between 1974 and 1979, the Museum was closed to the public before reopening in new premises in St. John’s Square, where it stayed for the next 20 years. The Museum moved again in 1998, this time to Castle Lane, before settling in Istabraq Hall in Merchant’s Quay.
The Limerick Museum relocated to its new location on Henry Street in the heart of the city centre on the 30th of May 2017.
